Preparations

Mehr anzeigen

Once you have sent us all necessary documents, attends an interview (which can be conducted via video conference), and been selected as a candidate, it is time to start preparing for your trip to Germany.

1. Employment contract
An employment contract will be drawn up, as this is an important document for entering Germany. We will ensure that all formalities are taken care of so that you can get started quickly and confidently.

2. Visa
As an applicant from a third country, you will need a visa to enter Germany and take up employment. We will assist you with the application process and provide you with the information you need.

3. Approval procedure
Before entering the country, you must submit an application for recognition of your qualifications. This is done at the responsible recognition authority / Kommunaler Sozialverband Sachsen (KSV Sachsen), which will conduct an equivalence assessment of your training. If they find any differences, you will receive a notification (known as a deficit notification) requiring you to take compensatory measures in Germany. However, do not worry, this compensatory measure is covered by the knowledge assessment course we offer.

It is important to note that the duties of a nurse in your home country may be different from those in Germany. To help you prepare for the tasks you will have to perform in Germany, the following is an overview of the most important ones.

Duties of a nurse:
  • basic care (personal hygiene, dressing/undressing, toilet assistance, bedding and positioning)
  • treatment care (administering medication, wound care, measuring vital signs, taking blood samples)
  • documentation and communication (care documentation, counseling/education, Collaboration in an interdisciplinary team)
  • mobilization and rehabilitation (mobility aids, rehabilitation exercises, promoting independence)
  • nutrition management (assistance with eating, nutrition documentation)
  • palliative care (pain relief, psychological support, end-of-life care)
  • organization and coordination (coordinating work processes, planning care measures)
  • psychosocial care (conversations, activation, working with relatives)
  • hygiene and safety (hygiene measures, safety of patients and nursing staff)
  • emergency management (first aid, resuscitation)

4. German language skills
In addition to professional recognition, a certain level of language proficiency is required – ideally at least B1. This is the only way to ensure that you can communicate effectively both, at work and in your private life. Our recognition course includes a special language course that focuses on the nursing profession.

Arrival and the first few days

Once all the preparatory steps have been completed, the flight can be booked after consultation, and an exact date of arrival can be set. We will arrange for you to be picked up at the train station to make your arrival as pleasant as possible. After your arrival in Germany, we are available to assist you with all administrative procedures, whether it is opening a bank account, finding a doctor, or looking for accommodation. We are always available to answer your questions. Since there is still some time before the course starts, you can explore Zwickau and the surrounding area and get your bearings. If you have any questions, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

By the way: You can also come to Germany before the official start of the course (it usually starts in October). We strongly recommend this. It gives you the opportunity to get to know the hospital and German nursing practice better. You get to know your team and gain some initial practice experience, which will make it easier for you to start the course. If this is not possible, we also offer an orientation day where you will receive all relevant information and instructions.

Induction

Mehr anzeigen

The induction process is an essential step in preparing you for your new role in the best possible way. A thorough induction ensures that you quickly find your feet can support the team effectively. Like all other nursing staff at HBK, you will be introduced to the procedures and regulations of our hospital. It is important to note that you will primarily be supporting the team on the ward where you already have previous experience. Of course, we are open to your wishes and experiences. You are welcome to let us know what these are and we will see how we can consider them. However, it should be noted that not every ward is suitable for accepting you, as it involves a lot of work. In addition to your support on the ward, you will have the opportunity to consolidate what you have learned in our skills lab – this takes place within the framework of the course with practical instruction. Here you can try things out, develop skills and make mistakes. These mistakes are valuable because you learn from them and do not repeat them.

On your first day of work, you will receive an orientation folder containing all-important information you will need for your work at the hospital. Every month, we hold a welcome day where all new employees receive valuable information for their daily work.

To make it even easier for you to settle in, we regularly offer events that promote integration and facilitate exchange with other nursing staff. This allows you to benefit from the experiences of other nursing staff. Activities include for example city tours, walks by the Schwanenteich lake and a Christmas dinner together – the perfect opportunity to settle into your new environment.

Teambuilding

In order to assign you to the best possible ward, the entire team must be prepared for this new challenge. After all, it´s not only you who are faced with the task of finding your way in a new country with a different language and a foreign healthcare system – this process is not always easy for the nursing staff in the ward either. Without their support, your integration would not be possible. They will help you to perform all essential tasks and train you step by step.
Thanks to the special support provided by the practical training, ward mentor and nursing management, misunderstandings and team conflicts can be identified and avoided at an early stage. In this way, we promote good teamwork right from the start.

As the HBK already comprises 60 different nations, we offer skilled workers the opportunity to learn about different cultures. This help to avoid misunderstandings and create a respectful, harmonious working environment.

Resolving conflicts
Differences of opinions, friction and conflicts are part of everyday working life.
Through regular reviews, we want to ensure that you feel comfortable with us and that no dissatisfaction arise that could lead to premature termination. However, there are not only conflicts that can affect your satisfaction. Infrastructural challenges such as finding accommodation, childcare or mobility can also be stressful. However, don´t worry, because the HBK is always there to support you. You will always find support her and can contact us with any questions or concerns you may have so that you can settle in well here.
